When did you first realize you were interested in BDSM?
I have been interested in BDSM since my late teens. I am in my 50s now, so that is a long time! I first discovered it from an article in one of those small urban newspapers that used to exist. The ones that advertised concerts and had classifieds for people looking for kinky sex. There was an article about BDSM. I was aware of it before the article, but had not really focused on it. Reading the article got me interested and I was off to the races.
Not too long thereafter I asked a boyfriend I had if I could tie him up. He loved the idea and we both loved the experience. We started experimenting with different forms of submission. I quickly learned that I much preferred to be the top than the bottom and that suited him fine.

What inspired you to start posting daily themes for your followers?
I enjoyed posting but wanted something that would set my page apart and that would keep people interested. I also had a couple followers who offered to help by suggesting images to fit the theme, which helped a lot. Now each day has a different feel and some coherence. It also allows the same picture to have a completely different meaning depending on the theme and the caption I add.
In fact, the captions are even more important than the theme. I almost never post without a caption because I feel like that brings the image to life.

It must be hard coming up with themes every day. How do you do that? Can you share a little bit about your creative process?
It can be challenging to come up with themes. I have a reasonable number of them that I return to, so that helps. I also invite some of my followers to suggest themes and they sometimes come up with a new one that feels like it will work. I have one sub @Slave-Niper who tracks my themes every day and every couple weeks sends me the list of all the themes I have used going back several months. That way I can see if there is a good theme that has not been used in a long time. Every once in a while I have an "Anything Goes" theme, which is kind of a wild card day. In the end, though, it is just a matter of what strikes my fancy when it is time to pick a theme.

What has been your most popular theme to date? Why do you think it resonated so well with your followers?
I have a fair number of followers — maybe 10-12 on any given day — who submit pictures for the theme. Judging by how many submissions I get, the simpler themes are more popular. Things like F/f or F/m because there are so many images to choose from. But some popular ones are less predictable. "Subs in Motion" attracts a lot of submissions when I use it, and those tend to be pretty distinctive images. So that works really well. "Above and Below" is also popular as are some that feature body parts "Feet," "Ass," "Faces," etc. Sometimes I select something that invites more creativity. So it might be "Thank Your Mistress For..." These let my followers exercise their ideas.
Today's Theme: Hold Position
For personal reasons, my slave bonshi is no longer doing mimic images like this one. I am looking for a new slave to serve in this way. Let me know if you are interested.

We hear you have a new game for your followers called Mimic. Can you explain the concept of the game and what inspired you to create it?
The game came from a sub I played with online for a while. I started to have him copy or "mimic" an image from BDSMLR. It was wonderfully humiliating to make him copy poses that I chose. When I posted them I got a positive reaction. I then came across a follower who offered to help curate the submissions and manage the process. So I work with @userharder who prepares them for me and I grade the submissions. So far it has been a lot of fun and quite a few people seem to want to play.

How do you choose the pictures for Mimic? Do you have any specific criteria you follow?
@userharder proposes a set of possible images — maybe 20 or 25. I then narrow it down to about 4 - 5. It is whatever strikes my fancy, really. I try to pick ones that can be copied by anyone — so no complex bondage, for example. I have found that even simple poses — for example simply kneeling with knees open and head down — leads to submissions of quite varying accuracy. Some people just pay more attention to details. It is obviously also good if the image is a little humiliating for the sub to mimic.

Can you share a particularly memorable submission from your daily themes or from Mimic?
To give you an idea of what I get and how I score, here are several submissions. The first couple are from one the most talented players. He always gets very high scores (and you can see the scores in my captions). The second two show a pose that is very well executed and the same pose that got a much lower score.

How do you decide which submissions to post for the daily themes and for Mimic? Are there specific qualities or elements you look for in these submissions? Can you walk us through your selection process?
For the daily themes I see what my followers have sent me and also look through my own feed. Sometimes I use the search feature but usually my followers have provided enough relevant blogs that I do not have to. To be posted an image has to fit the theme, obviously, and it has to inspire a caption that I like. The picture alone is not enough. I want the caption to be part of it. Some of my captions are intended to make the image more intense, others are funny, others celebrate when I get a submission that is a picture of a follower or their slaves. Whatever I think will be interesting, really.
For the mimic, so far I have used all the submissions that have been provided. That lets me grade them all, even the less impressive ones. I think that makes it more interesting to look through.

Some days I cannot even look at all the submissions, let alone use them all. I prioritize my regulars but do my best to get to them all. So far the volume has been just about right.
What has been the most rewarding aspect of running these activities on your blog?
I enjoy the process. I enjoy the images and thinking about captions. But the best part by far is interacting with others online. I have so many wonderful people I connect with. Here are a few of the blogs of folks I enjoy and correspond with. I am sure I have left some off and I apologize to anyone in that category.
Are there notable stories of how your themes, games, and communication with other members positively impacted them and/or the community as a whole?
I have enjoyed interacting with followers in many ways. For a couple that has meant having them serve as online submissives and giving me a lot of control over them. For others it has been sharing their own D/s interactions with their partners. And for others it is just exchanging thoughts and images and fantasies. All of it adds excitement and fun, which is what BDSMLR should be about.

What advice would you give to someone looking to increase engagement with their own followers?
It is all about the experience your followers get. I hope my followers enjoy the variety the themes provide as well as the way every day has its own flavor. And, of course, I hope the captions make things come alive. Engagement with followers is also so important. So many of my followers tell me that they never get responses when they send a message to others. I will admit that I cannot respond to every message, but when someone has clearly put effort in, I try to respond. The same is true when they provide submissions. That is a way for them to show that they have put in some time, which tells me that I may want to engage with them.

What qualities do you find most attractive in a submissive? Are there any particular behaviors or traits that you prefer them to have? Are there any specific skills or experience levels you look for in a submissive?
That is easy -- creativity and obedience. Subs need to have their own minds, but they also need to understand that I make the decisions. If I tell you to relate a fantasy to me, I do not want you to ask me for every detail. I want you to exercise your imagination and creativity. When I tell you to stand in the corner naked for 20 minutes, I do not expect an argument. I expect obedience.

What are some of the key responsibilities and expectations you have for your sub?
It all depends on the relationship. The subs who have truly served online are expected to follow my instructions. That usually involves orgasm control, some limited instruction about what to wear (e.g., I sometimes like the idea of dictating what color underwear a sub wears each day because that makes him/her think about me and their service every morning), discipline when I feel it is deserved (or I just want to do it), reliable communication, and more. If you want to serve me, the minimum is to be able to communicate with me regularly in interesting ways. I may be busy for a couple days, but that does not change the fact that I expect to hear from my subs.
There are so many other things that come along with it. For example, I sometimes order my subs to have naked days at home where they spend the entire day in their home naked. It is amazing how it affects them.

I have never been quite sure what the right label is for the submission I prefer. I do like service elements. For online subs that means I may demand that they keep their home very clean and I may require that they follow a diet and exercise regime. Once in a while I have them buy me flowers — meaning buy flowers for their home and send me a photo. I also enjoy humiliation, which can take so many forms. Making them eat dinner from a bowl on the floor one night a week. I had one sub put an item in every room — just something small like a spoon or sticky note — that served to remind him of me and his service. He even had a note on his desk at work that was meaningless to everyone except him and me.
